Murder Suspect Arrested In Nebo (Nebo, NC)

A McDowell County man accused of killing his roommate is in jail.  Sheriff's deputies and the SBI arrested Walt Mitchell at a home in Nebo on Saturday night.  Investigators say his roommate was found dead with a head wound the night before.  Mitchell is now charged with murder and will appear in court in a week.   

State Lawmakers May Return To Help Write Ballots (Raleigh, NC)

State lawmakers may be making a surprise return to the Capitol soon.  The House Rules Committee Chairman says a commission in charge of writing ballot questions is under political pressure to use negative language for the six amendments scheduled to be considered in November.  Legislators might have to come back for a special session to work on the ballot wording.  The questions are due to the state elections board in about two weeks. 

Fire Destroys Six Flea Market Businesses (Burke County, NC)

Burke County fire officials say at least six businesses at the I-40 Flea Market were destroyed by a Saturday blaze.  The fire is thought to have started in a trash can.  One store owner told the Hickory Record that she was surprised the whole flea market didn't burn down.  Firefighters were able to control flames within 15 minutes.   

Passenger Dies In Motorcycle Crash (Asheville, NC)

A passenger who was thrown from a motorcycle on I-240 is dead.  Asheville Police say the driver lost control near the Haywood Road exit.  The passenger was a Michigan woman.  The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital.  

Polk County Donations Still Coming In For Storm Victims (Polk County, NC)

Donations are still making their way into Polk County for people affected by devastating May storms.  A fundraiser was held in Saluda Saturday night to help more than 50 families.  The North Carolina Baptist Men organization is using the profits to assist them, and donations are still being accepted.   

Antique Toy Buying Show Going On Today (Asheville, NC)

The Antique Toy and Doll Buying Show continues in Asheville today.  Buyers are set up at the DoubleTree Hotel near the Biltmore Estate.  The show runs until 5 p.m. and is free.
